Training Workshop: Storytelling for the Elderly in Care Settings

Sunday 5 June 1.30–5pm

We are grateful to Awards for All for a grant which enables us to run a programme of community storytelling workshops.

This year the festival will be providing storytelling activities with frail elderly people, particularly for those in care settings, and with learning disabled adults. These will take place in the Mendip and South Somerset districts from June to December. Host venues include Torrwood Care Centre; The Lawrence Centre; Fiveways and The Laurel Resource Centre, Hallr Wood and Drayton Forest Schools. These events will not be open to the public, but there will be a free workshop to which all are welcome, who want to find out more about this aspect of storytelling.

This free workshop on June 5th is open to anyone with an interest in the use of storytelling with the elderly. This may include people who work or volunteer with the elderly and want to know more about using storytelling with this group, or storytellers who want to develop their skills. You may be caring for elderly relatives or just be someone who would like to find out more.

It will take place at The Lawrence Centre: St Lawrence Lodge, Chamberlain St. Wells BA5 2PQ. There is a small free car park next to the centre, otherwise a public car park adjoins.

We will learn new skills, increase story repertoire, share experience and techniques amongst peers, all in the context of developing storytelling practice relevant to working with elderly people in care settings.

The training workshop will be from 13.30 to 17.00 including a tea break. Basic refreshments will be provided. The venue will be open from 12.30 for those who have had a long journey and may want to eat a packed lunch beforehand. To register an interest, or find out more, contact Sharon on 01458 259553 or through the contact form.
